Irina Contreras
Irina Contreras is an LA born and bred interdisciplinary artist, writer and educator. She makes solo and collaborative research based work examining the political life of collective memory. Irina uses decentered performance as a way to highlight internal public and private space most often inspired by racialization, security culture and political histories. She has worked for over ten years at the intersections of the arts, education and radical pedagogy within institutional and community based platforms. Her writing has appeared in the anthologies Beyond Walls and Cages and Nobody Passes as well as make/shift Magazine and other publications. She has held residency in Mexico City, Michoacán and Berkeley. Her performances and videos have been featured in venues throughout the US and abroad in the Caribbean, Europe, Mexico and more.
